"My mum is very musical," she explained. "I started playing clarinet in Year 5, then picked up guitar along the way. Eventually, I thought, 'No, that's not cool. I want to play guitar!'"

Finding Inspiration in Self-Doubt

Like many emerging musicians, Lexi has experienced moments of questioning whether she's good enough. Those feelings became the foundation for her latest single, Falling Behind.

The song was written after attending a live gig that left her overwhelmed by imposter syndrome.

"I was like, 'I'm never going to write a song again,'" she recalled. "Then I went home and wrote Falling Behind that night."

The track also reflects a period in her life when she took a gap year after graduating high school in 2023. After not gaining entry to WAAPA on her first attempt and instead studying at TAFE, she couldn't help but compare her journey to everyone else's.

"I just felt a bit behind," she said. "I thought my career wasn't working... but it was actually okay in the end."

A Song That Says, "You're Not Alone"

Although Falling Behind touches on uncertainty and self-doubt, Lexi hopes listeners walk away with something much more comforting.

Rather than making people feel sad, she hopes the song creates a sense of nostalgia and reassurance.

"If you can relate to it and feel like you're not alone with your feelings, that's really nice."

For anyone who's ever compared themselves to others or questioned whether they're on the right path, it's a message that's sure to resonate.

What's Next?

Lexi already has her sights set on her next project.

While nothing is set in stone just yet, she's hoping to release a semi-self-produced EP in the future as she continues developing her production skills.

Outside of recording, she's also keen to revive one of her favourite social media series, Music Recs, where she shares music from artists around Perth.

"There's so much good music in Perth," she said.

Dream Collaborations and Favourite Moments

If Lexi could collaborate with anyone, she'd love to work with folk favourites Lizzy McAlpine, Tiny Habits, or Noah Kahan, while also shouting out talented artists within Perth's own folk scene.

One of her most memorable performances so far came when she opened for Oakabella Mae at a fundraiser for the Starlight Foundation—a cause that's particularly close to her heart.

"It was really special," she said. "We were all wearing pyjamas with stars on them."

As for her dream festival? Think a celebration of modern folk music, featuring Noah Kahan, Lizzy McAlpine, Laura Marling, and Tiny Habits.

Looking to the Future

In five years, Lexi hopes to have released several EPs or albums and continue growing as an artist. But if life takes her in a different direction, she already knows she'd love to inspire the next generation as a primary school music teacher.

Whether she's writing deeply personal songs or championing Perth's local music scene, Lexi's passion for connecting with people is clear. And if Falling Behind is anything to go by, she's definitely moving in the right direction.

"I've always been writing songs," Lachy explained. "Now I'm doing Sound Production at TAFE to try and get better at recording myself."

A Fresh Take on an Old Favourite

Although The Clock Reads 12 feels like a brand-new release, the song has actually been with Lachy for several years.

Originally written around three years ago, the track was first released while he was still in high school. Since then, he's revisited the song, updating the arrangement, changing some of the lyrics and giving it the production it deserved.

"It's actually a really old song," Lachy said. "I released it years ago, but it didn't sound very good, so I took it down. This version is a little different—I changed some lyrics and added some new parts."

When it comes to songwriting, Lachy says the music always comes first.

Rather than beginning with lyrics, he starts by finding an instrumental idea that excites him before building the song around it.

For The Clock Reads 12, that meant creating a simple, spacious arrangement with room for the instruments to breathe.

"It's kind of a song about talking to someone late at night and just vibing with them," he said.

Looking Ahead

Fans won't have to wait too long for more music.

Lachy confirmed he's currently working on a brand-new EP, although he's keeping the details under wraps for now.

Away from his own music, he's been listening to plenty of Clairo, naming "Add Up My Love" as his favourite track from her latest album.

If he could put together his dream festival lineup?

Arctic Monkeys, Vulfpeck, Tame Impala and Mac DeMarco would all make the cut.

Creating a Feeling

More than anything, Lachy hopes listeners connect emotionally with his music.

"It's a bit of a buzzword," he laughed, "but I want people to feel euphoric."

He believes that feeling is what makes music so special.

"I really want to make music that has a cooler groove to it."

Dream Collaborations

While Billy Joel remains one of his biggest musical heroes, Lachy admits he'd be just as excited to collaborate with the people closest to him.

"I'd love to do joint songs with my friends where we're all singing together," he said.

What's Next?

Over the next five to ten years, Lachy hopes to establish himself as a full-time musician based in Perth, releasing multiple albums and continuing to evolve as an artist.

"I just want to be doing music full-time... have a couple of albums out, a couple of different themed albums, and just keep kicking as much as I can."
