A couple from the Peel region have topped up their bank account, taking out the division one Saturday Lotto prize.
After discovering their Lotto ticket from The Lucky Charm in Pinjarra was a winner, the man planned a huge surprise for his wife.
He walked her into Lotterywest blindfolded and surprised her with the $588,000 win.
"I had no idea, I thought we might be going to a nice restaurant, maybe a new ring, but not winning the lottery,” she said.
After screams, tears and laughter finally settled down, the winner said she wanted to make sure a portion of their winnings went to those in need.
“I want to help the homeless and feel we should share this prize,” she said.
Her husband, who discovered the win, said he planned the elaborate stunt because he didn’t want his wife to miss out on the joyful surprise he experienced.
“I felt it wasn’t fair I got to enjoy the winning experience, so I made this plan to give her the same feeling that I had,” he said.
Lotterywest spokesperson James Mooney said the couple created one of the best moments in Lotterywest’s Winner’s Room.
“I’ve been privileged to see many unique and beautiful reactions in this room, but this moment takes the cake,” he said.
“To see the firsthand reaction of the joy that a life changing win has on a family is something I’ll never forget.”
